A summer internship with BRAC could change your life!  Taking the opportunity to spend your summer in a rural community in Liberia, Uganda, Sierra Leone or Bangladesh could be more educational than a summer sitting in a class room.

Learn More About BRAC: Founded in Bangladesh in 1972, the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) is a leading development organization working to understand and alleviate systemic poverty. BRAC operates offices and trains local staff in Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Southern Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. Their programs address the roots of poverty: agriculture and food security, economic development, education, social development, environment, gender equality, health, human rights and legal aid services, social communication and advocacy, social entrepreneurship, and technical assistance. BRAC programs also emphasize the role of women as agents of social and economic transformation in their communities. The organization offers student internships at its headquarters in Bangladesh and at offices in the US and UK; they plan to expand the internship program to their African offices in the future.

Creative Learning’s Views:
BRAC’s internship program is best suited to motivated students seeking to learn more about community-based development and microfinance projects in South Asia. BRAC is a large, established organization that offers students and researchers a unique opportunity to see firsthand how development affects marginalized communities throughout Bangladesh. Interns can make use of BRAC’s extensive resources to conduct their own research projects and learn from the expertise of some of the top leaders in the fields of microfinance and development. Some universities may offer college credit for completed internships.
