Communications Volunteer – School to School

Creative Learning seeks a dedicated part-time volunteer to aid outreach efforts for its School 2 School (S2S) program. The volunteer will be needed for 15 hours each week over the next several months to help S2S establish new partner schools in the United States.

About the program:

School-2-School (S2S) is a unique cultural exchange and education program that partners schools in the United States with schools in developing nations. Students engage in a virtual exchange that empowers them to learn about each other. American schools also raise money to purchase vital supplies for their partner schools abroad, ranging from books and paper to computers and lab equipment.

In the summer, Creative Learning sponsors a teacher from the American school to volunteer at their partner school abroad for two to four weeks. S2S has directly benefited more than a thousand students in Afghanistan, Iraq, The Philippines, Panama, Uganda, Bolivia, and Jordan.

About the position:

For the 2012-2013 academic year, S2S has identified three partner schools abroad in Bangladesh, Jordan and Indonesia. Now, S2S is working to identify three American schools to take part in the program. The communications volunteer will be responsible for supporting this mission through:

–          Promoting S2S online through blogs, social media and websites.

–          Networking with schools and teachers to find U.S. applicants for the program.

–          Representing S2S at events in the Washington, DC area.

–          Drafting promotional materials and releases for S2S as needed.

Qualifications:

S2S seeks a volunteer with a demonstrated background or interest in communications, education or international development. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational abilities are required for this volunteer placement. Applicants must also be able to commit to 15 hours of volunteer service during the regular work week at Creative Learning’s offices in Friendship Heights.
