We work at the grassroots level throughout the Muslim World to counter violent extremism before it takes hold, to promote tolerance and understanding, and to foster better relations with the United States.
Our thoughts today are with those affected by this weekend’s attacks in New York City, New Jersey, and Minnesota. These disturbing events demonstrate both the continued threat of radicalization and homegrown terrorism, and the critical need for outreach and compassion towards marginalized groups within the United States – particularly Muslim youth.
Last week, on the 15th anniversary of September 11th, AUA Founder and Director Ben Orbach penned an important essay, outlining concrete ways we can support our most vulnerable neighbors, peers, classmates, and friends. In light of this weekend’s attacks, we urge you to read Ben’s piece, and reflect on how you can reach out in your community.
